Logan: An Action Packed and Amazing MovieBy BRANDON SAGLAM
Logan is Marvel’s latest and last Wolverine movie of three which differs from the others with an R-rating. This movie is a dark drama and approaches this long time X-Men hero in a different light. Logan is set in 2029 and many of the X-men are now gone and the main plot of the story is Wolverine and Professor X also known Charles Xavier have to transport this girl Laura Kinney, or X-23 the attempt for a genetic copy for weapon X, also known as Wolverine. There is a common theme of hopelessness throughout the movie as the characters are often put in very desperate situations. This is especially shown through the pains which Wolverine must deal with it is because he is much older and he feels like he is on his own. Hugh Jackman was absolutely wonderful in portraying this broken and hurt Wolverine attempt to overcome all adversities placed in his path. The first act mostly consists of the introduction of characters but it is the second act which was used for character growth and the growing bond between Wolverine and X-23. This movie differs from most X-men movies it is much more somber, deep and personal character story. Though there is no doubt this is not an R-rating with the gritty and bloody action scenes with Wolverine and even X-23. The movie stays mostly true to the comics and any changes are not very major and they work for the story. The pacing of the movie can occasionally get off track but overall it is an excellently told dramatic story. The acting for all roles was excellent, even the young actress Dafne Keen who plays X-23. Logan is definitely an amazing movie and a must see for any superhero fan, but it must be made clear this is an R-rated movie. Wolverine is bloody. He is impaling people and cutting off limbs. This was a great movie and arguably one of the best Marvel movies and maybe one of the best that will come out in 2017. 2017 Spring Anime Season Kicks off

Redlands Art Walk News By AHLORA SMITH
Downtown Redlands held the city’s first Art Walk of the year on March 26, 2017, and this year, they wanted to go much bigger compared to previous years. Instead of having sellers in the alleys, the displays were directly on the famous State Street. Two new notable aspects were also added, a free group yoga session and artists from San Bernardino’s Generation Now were featured in the fantastic visual art festival. The different types of art were very effective in giving an eclectic effect on the semi-annual presentation for the city of Redlands. |

King Kong: Skull Island Hits The Big ScreenBy CAROLINA SANCHEZ
The return of King Kong to the silver screen was March 10. His comeback is part of the cinematic world being built starting with 2015’s Godzilla. But this new, bigger version of the long time movie monster stands by itself. As per usual Kong brings a show that can not be matched. The star studded cast does an amazing job of bringing Skull Island’s fears to the audience but Kong steals the show in every frame that he is in. Manohla Dargis from the New York Times writes that “Skull Island deploys action-movie feints and horror-film frights capably amid its clichés and deaths.” This also goes with the Apocalypse Now shots that bookend the time on Skull Island. It is not only a monster movie but also a beautiful story of a long lost soldier. If King Kong, monsters, and action sit in your cup of tea go see King Kong: Skull Island. |
Beauty and The Beast Illuminates Theaters as Live-Action film
By STEPHANIE AGUILAR
Disney has once again captured the hearts of the new generation while maintaining the magic and the classic moments from the original movie. The new trend of Disney recreating classic movies with live-action, Cinderella, Maleficent, and The Jungle Book, brings you another classic, Beauty and the Beast. This is a story of Belle, a beautiful, smart, and brave girl, who agrees to take her father’s place as prisoner of the heartless beast in the forgotten castle. As she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and immerse herself in the castle’s magic, she starts to pass the beast’s monstrous appearance that at first scared her. Recognizing the beast’s true kind heart and soul, and in return the Beast finally learns how to love.
Although there were some changes from the original movie, it doesn’t jeopardise the story line or the movie magic. Beauty and the Beast adds more background and character exploration to the main characters which brings more life and detail to the movie. The enchanted staff look slightly more illuminated than the original however still remain their unforgettable characteristics. The music composed by Alan Menken goes beautifully with the movie, and the soundtrack out to buy. Emma Watson, famous for Hermione from the Harry Potter series, shows perfectly of Belle’s bravery and kindness while singing amazingly like the original movie. The only disappointing scene was the fighting scene between Gaston and the Beast as Gaston uses a modern weapon, a gun, to battle the Beast, and is not as dramatised like the original movie.
This movie doesn’t seem to die down as it about to receive $400 million in domestic gross which is more than Frozen. So be our guest, enjoy the movie, and travel back to 1991.
