Celebrating Valentine's Day Around the WorldBy MONICA MIKHAIL
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we begin to see stuffed animals, red roses and hundreds of boxes of chocolate everywhere around us. Did you ever wonder if this is the same way all other countries celebrate Valentine’s Day? What are the different traditions around the world? Or do even all countries celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Not all countries celebrate in the same way which is sometimes hard to imagine not getting a cute teddy bear from a loved one but believe it or not, there are more than 10 countries that have their own traditions when it comes to Valentine’s Day…. Here is a list of interesting traditions from across the globe. In Japan, people switch up traditional gender roles during Valentine’s Day meaning that women are expected to give chocolate to men. DIY Valentine
By ALLY GZESH
Materials needed:
Jolly Ranchers, Lollipop sticks, Lollipop wrappers, Ribbon/string, Gloves, Bowl of hot water Instructions Place the Jolly Ranchers in the bowl of hot water. Only insert what you will use. Pictured is 7 Cherry Jolly Ranchers and 1 Green Apple, but I ended up using 9 Cherry and two Green Apple. If the water is too cool, you may microwave it for 30-60 seconds, or heat it over the stove until hot. Put on your gloves, and grab a Jolly Rancher. It should be soft. If not, then let it sit in the bowl again. If it is soft, gently knead the Jolly rancher until it is flat. Unwrap it and knead it, placing in the bowl again if it hardens. Get a stick, and wrap the Jolly Rancher around it to make a petal. Repeat until your flower is big enough. Do the same process with the Green Apple, only make one side pointy. The end result should look like the picture. Wrap it and share it with all of your loved ones. |
