The Ambiguous Meaning Behind Family By JASMYN GONZALEZ
Simply defining family is much more than a phrase or even a few sentences. Family has such different meanings for different people in the world that one simple definition just wouldn’t fit. Sophomore Sasha Boyarski gave her insight on family by stating, “Family is a bond that you have with a bunch of people in your life. It doesn’t really matter if it’s your best friend or your parents and your brother. You have this really strong bond between them and that’s what makes them your family.” Going off of this statement, family can be considered either blood related members or just a friend who has been loyal for a very long time which has instilled a strong trust between the two... Every week, Thursday is considered a special day for all the chess fans out there. The reason why is because of the chess club meeting. Chess Club meets every week in room G118 at REV. Hosted by Mr. Ridgway; chess club provides kids with a serene environment to indulge and humor their love for chess along with other board games, such as battleship, monopoly, clue, connect 4, scrabble, risk, and Pictionary. Mr. Ridgway have been hosting chess club for seven years, and when asked Mr. Ridgway said that he hosts chess club "Because it is quite." When I asked one of the members; “Why do you like chess club?” This is how he responded, “I enjoy going to chess club because I find it fun and relaxing to compete strategically with my fellow analytical students and teachers.” |

A Visit From a Taiwanese Foreign Exchange Student By VINCENT GALVAN and JOHANA ABREU
Jason Lin arrived in America about a month ago from Taiwan. He is from the biggest city in Taiwan, Taipe. Before coming to America, he lived in a city like environment where he said he can go anywhere on subway in about 10 minutes. He said the school system in Taiwan was harder and that the average time for school was usually from 7 AM to 5 PM. Furthermore, unlike students in the United States, Taiwanese students do not get to choose the classes they want to take or their teachers. When asked why he wanted to be a foreign exchange student, he replied “I want to experience different cultures.” Also, he liked the freedom Americans influenced and admired the media mostly through music and movies. Later on, when asked who would he like to bring with him to America, he said he would like to bring his friends because he believes that they will have a fun experience as well... |
Feature: Charlie Egger Makes National Honor ChoirBy SAVANNA PATINO
Charlie Egger is a senior at Redlands East Valley High School and has been a part of East Valley Singers there for three years. He has taken part in a variety of Honor Choirs, ranging from All-County to All-State. Recently he has been selected out of 4300 students to be a part of the ACDA National Honor Choir in Minnesota in March. Only 120 students are chosen nationwide to be a part of this ensemble. He will receive the opportunity to be coached and conducted by Eric Whitacre and other famous composers and sing in up to eight parts. Rita Stevens, the choral director at REV, says it “is a true honor for us all. To my knowledge, no RUSD student has ever been selected to sing in this prestigious ensemble.” |
